Excess Gas

Excess GasGas | Cause, Remedy, TreatmentWhat's the Cause of Excess Gas? Two causes exist for such indigestion: Lack of Digestive Enzymes The other major component in digestion is the natural digestive bacteria that are found in the colon. These bacteria are also fragile and are destroyed by antibiotic medicine and by the fluoride found in municipal drinking water (aka tap water). To replace the enzymes destroyed by heating foods, take a digestive enzyme supplement. To replace the bacteria killed from antibiotics or fluoridated water, take an acidophilus product. Improper Food Combining The reason is because different types of foods require a different environment in the stomach in order to digest properly. For example, starches digest almost immediately in the stomach at a relatively neutral pH level. Meat, however, requires a very acidic pH level to digest. Thus, if you eat potatoes (starch) and steak (meat) at the same time, your stomach becomes confused and can't provide the optimum environment to digest each food. Thus, digestion takes longer, causing temporary fatigue to set in, and when finished, the digestion is incomplete, leaving partially undigested food to pass onto the colon. Undigested foods are devoured by bacteria in the intestines which let off the byproduct of foul smelling gas. Rule of Thumb with Food Combining Wait 20 minutes between each type of food to allow for digestion. Allow up to an hour for heavy meats to digest. Avoid Combining Starches and Meat Which Products Can Help? To replace the bacertia killed from antibiotics and fluoridated water, take a Dr Morter's acidophilus supplement.
